![]() ![]() In my opinion, there's not a better place in town to spend my money on food. What IS special about the Undercover Eggplant is the food and THAT is what I'm paying for. The Undercover Eggplant offers daily specials, pizza, homemade soups, garden salads, fresh produce and quality sliced deli meats at great prices. We have tables for eating in our quaint setting or can offer take-out service to fit any needs. There's nothing extra special about the building or the decor. offers patrons delicious deli sandwiches served on our homemade sliced Italian bread. The decor, which some folks have mentioned, it's painted in eggplant colors outside (You CAN'T miss it: eggplant purple walls with bright green trim) looks like any normal deli inside. It's always good stuff though, nothing offensive. Sometimes it's blues or jazz, sometimes it's pop. Delightfully satisfying! (Honorable mention: Any of the cheesecakes!) One suggestion: If you're in a hurry and you're ordering more than just soup, call ahead so your food is ready when you get there. YUMMY! Favorite dessert: Bread pudding! Made with the bread they make at the deli, whipped cream on top. Note: The soup comes with a couple slices of the fabulous bread they make. If you're not sure what you might like, they're always willing to give you a little sample. I've only disliked two of the probably 20+ soups that I've tried. Almost any of the soups, which change daily. You HAVE to try the Creamy Garlic Eggplant pizza! (I wasn't a big eggplant fan, until I had this pizza!) It's got batter dipped eggplant atop a creamy garlic sauce and cheese, then dalloped with a little tomato pizza sauce, also made on the premises. ![]() My favorites? The Louisianna Locksmith sandwich: Thin slices of hot, batter dipped eggplant, cold thinly sliced ham, provolone cheese and all the fixings (lettuce, onion, tomato, etc.) on some of the best bread, which is baked fresh right there at the deli. The portions are huge, the prices are good, especially considering what you're getting. This deli has the BEST sandwiches, pizza, soup, salads and desserts! First and foremost, everything is quality food, very well prepared. WHY had I never heard of this place before? not a dining experience, rather, good food to go. the biggest dining loss in Oneonta history. THEN IT HAPPENED: the restaurant burned down. The restaurant is in a part of town that I do not frequent, but I intended to go out of my way to get there. My meal was very inexpensive, DELICIOUS, and I was definitely going to return OFTEN. ![]() I went reluctantly, and once again, was absolutely delighted. She has vegetarian tastes (which means SAWDUST is a food group). Why bother? A friend assured me that I would enjoy the Undercover Eggplant. That said, I don't venture out to explore new establishments that often. Oneonta notoriously has the worst food this side of the Mississippi. I know restaurants and am not a picky eater. I have been to restaurants all over NYC, SF, LA, Paris, Amsterdamn, on and on. Without fail, at the end of August each year, you’ll find yourself staring into the sky as hot air balloons float overhead.Well, I have good news and I have bad news. You wait all summer for the Susquehanna Hot Air Balloon Festival in Neawha Park. Panic! at the Disco headlining and both colleges helping in the cleanup of the event? A win-win. You know that OH Fest is a widely-debated event.īut you’ll go anyway. You mourned its closure in late 2013 after nearly three decades in business. You miss the swanky vibe of Neptune’s Diner. If you’re a true local, you’ll just say “I’m going to Undercover.” You always end up getting a City of the Hills, Mrs. Others may think that an undercover eggplant is a purple plum, but at this sandwich-specializing eatery the eggplant shines. You know the maté and the artisanal bread are some of the best options, but you still always end up ordering the Spinwich or The Yellow Submarine. You look forward to eating at the Yellow Deli. ![]()
